How a Street Kart Tour Works

The same pattern at every Street Kart shop: documents, costume, briefing, then the road.

  1. Send Your Documents First

Street Kart's pages recommend sending photos of your documents after booking so the staff can check them, and Street Kart emails after a Tokyo Bay booking about what you need.

  2. Arrive 30 Minutes Early

Be at the shop 30 minutes before the start. Bring your original licence, the permit or JAF translation, and your passport.

  3. Pick a Costume

Costumes are included on the Tokyo Bay tour; choose one at the shop. Goggles are provided, and a raincoat if it rains.

  4. Over the Bay to Tokyo Tower

From Tokyo Bay the course crosses Rainbow Bridge and runs to Tokyo Tower and back, about 2 hours in all, with the guide taking photos you receive afterwards.

The licence rule at Street Kart

Street Kart’s pages put it in capitals: “NO LICENSE NO DRIVE!!”. It accepts three sets of documents, all originals:

  1. A home licence from Switzerland, Germany, France, Belgium, Monaco or Taiwan, an authorised Japanese translation of it, and your passport.
  2. An International Driving Permit under the 1949 Geneva Convention, your home licence, and your passport.
  3. For US Armed Forces members and their families, a SOFA or military licence, a US state licence and a DoD or military ID.

Without the originals you cannot join and you get no refund. Its pages recommend sending photos of your documents after booking so the staff can check them in advance (Street Kart, checked November 2026). Street Kart’s shop pages give no minimum age, but its GetYourGuide listings rule out children under 18. The licence and IDP guide covers what JAF, the Japan Automobile Federation, accepts.

Insurance and cancelling

Street Kart’s site says basic insurance is included and that you pay a deductible of JPY 50,000 a kart for damage to it, billed after the tour, unless you buy the optional full cover (Street Kart, checked November 2026). On GetYourGuide, the Tokyo Bay, Shibuya and Akihabara listings can be cancelled for a full refund up to 7 days before; the Shibuya Annex listing up to 24 hours before.

Street Kart and Akiba Kart

Akiba Kart’s website lists the same shops, the same Shibuya address and the same telephone number as Street Kart’s, with the same licence and insurance text (the operators’ sites, checked November 2026). Neither says they are one company. Akiba Kart Shibuya looks at what its own GetYourGuide listings book.

Rainbow Bridge and Tokyo Tower in 2 Hours

Street Kart's Tokyo Bay tour: an English-speaking guide, costumes, goggles, a raincoat for rain and the guide's photos. Cancel up to 7 days before for a full refund. Starting from US$104 per person.
