Rules that are Monkey’s own
- Licence. A licence valid on Japanese roads; its FAQ says a moped or motorcycle licence does not count. Visitors need a 1949 Geneva Convention permit in booklet form, issued in their own country; 1968 Vienna Convention, FIA, IDA and IAA permits are not recognised. Its FAQ adds Estonia to the countries that can drive on a translation; JAF’s list of six does not include it, so check with JAF if that is you. The licence and IDP guide has the detail.
- Height and weight. Its FAQ sets a maximum of 200 cm and 110 kg. The Asakusa, Skytree and Akihabara tour is not for people over 180 cm or over 150 kg.
- Costumes. Costumes are included on its Tokyo Tower and Shibuya to Shinjuku tours, and its FAQ says you cannot bring your own.
- Cancelling. On GetYourGuide its tours refund in full up to 24 hours before. Its own site’s terms are stricter: a cancellation 7 days or more before is refunded less transaction fees, and inside 7 days you pay in full (checked November 2026).
The two-seat Can-Am
Monkey Adventure Kart’s FAQ lists a Can-Am two-seater, one driver and one passenger, on its Road Route 1 only. No age or height is given for the passenger, and none of the tours above mentions the two-seater, so ask the shop before you book. Kids and passengers compares the other ways to take a passenger.
Shibuya Crossing in a Group of Five
Monkey Adventure Kart's Shibuya hour: Harajuku, Omotesando, Yoyogi Park and Shibuya Crossing, with a photo shoot and one printed photo. Free cancellation up to 24 hours before. Starting from US$88 per person.
