How the Akiba Kart Hour Works

From a shop in Shinjuku, round the Shibuya sights and back.

  1. Arrive 20 Minutes Early

The tour starts and ends at Shinjuku 1-2-8 (東京都新宿区新宿1-2-8). Bring your passport and a permit valid in Japan in book form; card and digital permits are not accepted.

  2. Check the Limits

Drivers must be 150 to 185 cm tall and weigh under 100 kg. Pick a costume; it is included.

  3. Harajuku and Shibuya Crossing

Behind the instructor to Harajuku, through Shibuya Crossing and along Omotesando, then back to Shinjuku, one hour in all.

  4. If It Rains Hard

Heavy rain cancels the tour; you can rebook free of charge, or take a refund if no other date works.

Akiba Kart

A Shibuya Name, a Shinjuku Start

What its GetYourGuide tours book, and what its website shares with Street Kart's.

Akiba Kart Shibuya’s main tour on GetYourGuide is called “from Shinjuku to Shibuya”, and it means it: the tour starts and ends at Shinjuku 1-2-8, in Shinjuku, and drives out to Harajuku, Shibuya Crossing and Omotesando. It costs from US$99 a person (checked November 2026) for an hour, in a group of up to 6, with an instructor, insurance, a costume and photos. Check the limits before you book: drivers must be 150 to 185 cm tall and under 100 kg.

GetYourGuide prices checked November 2026, per driver.

Both are one hour for up to 6 drivers, with the same inclusions and the same 150 to 185 cm and 100 kg limits. The Shinjuku tour had 366 reviews when we read it and the Shibuya one 172. The Shibuya tour’s listing also rules out pregnant women, people with back problems or limited mobility, and under-18s.

Akiba is the nickname of Akihabara, but neither listing describes a start there: one starts at Shinjuku 1-2-8 and the other drives Shibuya Scramble and Dogenzaka. If you want a tour that really starts in Akihabara, go-karting from Akihabara lists the ones that do.

On the licence, both tours need a permit valid in Japan, in book form, and an invalid or missing one means the tour is cancelled without refund. The Shinjuku tour’s description also mentions a Japanese licence; its booking notes ask for an international licence. For a visitor that means a 1949 Geneva Convention permit, or a JAF translation for licences from six countries (the licence and IDP guide).

Akiba Kart’s website and Street Kart’s

akiba-kart.com lists the same shops as streetkart.com (Shinagawa, two in Akihabara, Shibuya and the Shibuya Annex, Tokyo Bay and Asakusa, plus Osaka and Okinawa), the same Shibuya address at Maruyama-cho 15-3, the same telephone number and the same licence and insurance text; its Shibuya course is called AKIBA KART Tour HS where Street Kart’s is STREET KART Tour HS (the operators’ sites, checked November 2026). Neither site says the two are one company. If you want the Maruyama-cho shop itself, Street Kart’s Shibuya listing books it.

Two more listings on Viator carry the supplier name AKIBA KART OSAKA but run in Tokyo: a Shinjuku tour, which says its shop is 3 minutes on foot from Shinjuku-gyoemmae Station, and a Shibuya tour from Higashi 4-12-1 in Shibuya, both an hour, from US$128 (checked November 2026). They take drivers from 150 to 190 cm, a different upper limit from the GetYourGuide tours, and say every kart is for one person only.

Rain and cancelling

Heavy rain cancels Akiba Kart Shibuya’s tours. On the Shinjuku tour you can rebook free, with a refund if no other date works; the Shibuya tour offers a refund or a free rebooking. Otherwise both refund in full up to 24 hours before.
